ZAKK WYLDE TO BE INDUCTED TO THE
HOLLYWOOD ROCK WALK
HONORS TO TAKE PLACE ON
TUEDAY, JAUNARY 17TH, 2006
HOLLYWOOD (December 1st, 2005) - Guitar virtuoso Zakk Wylde has been chosen as the next inductee for the famed Hollywood Rock Walk at the Hollywood Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. The induction begins at 12:00 noon with many of Rocks ‘Best of the Best’ guest speakers. Amongst the speakers, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne will speak and show their support for their chosen ax-slinger.
Zakk Wylde has played a significant role for Ozzy Osbourne, who handpicked Wylde in 1987 at the tender age of 19 to be his new axe slinger.
As a sidekick to the former Black Sabbath singer and future MTV superstar, Wylde had the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of such renowned fretster’s as Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads and Jake E Lee.
He passed each test with flying colors, co-writing many of Ozzy's biggest hits - including the CD's "No Rest For the Wicked", the multi-platinum and Ozzy's greatest selling CD "No More Tears" and "Ozzmosis".
After a brief collaboration with Axl Rose & Company the offer to join Guns N Roses didn't materialize. Wylde went on to perform with the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd before recording his first solo effort, Pride & Glory.
Zakk started his solo music in 1994, when he briefly left Ozzy, forming the group Pride & Glory, and releasing a one record before doing another under his own name (Book of Shadows).
In 1998 Zakks brain-child Black Label Society released their debut album ‘Sonic Brew.’ Since then, Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society has released five (5) studio albums including the 2005 release ‘Mafia’ with songs hitting in the top 20 Billboard charts. Spending the last year on a solid tour schedule, the band has been playing to sellout shows across the world, including their main stage presence on Ozzfest.
Wylde also found time to appear alongside Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston in the move Rock Star and says he will consider other acting roles. Wylde explains, "The producers just wanted me to be myself. I had to go down there, drink beer, fire shotguns, lift weights - and they wanted to pay ME?!"
In October of 2003, Zakk Wylde had the honor of inducting his very first guitar into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Wylde presented his most prized guitar, a 1985 Les Paul Custom he received for graduation from his mother, to the Museum. “I would visit this guitar [in the store], like you would a dog that you wanted so badly, but couldn't get,” explains Wylde. “This is the real deal guitar. It has the most sentimental meaning to me that I cannot place into words.” Wylde was $350.00 shy of paying off the guitar, so his mother paid off the final amount and presented it to Wylde as his graduation gift.
